Getting a check for yourself
What you do next depends on the level of check you need.
Basic check
A basic check shows unspent convictions, or states that none were found. Anyone can have one. You can apply through us, with application guidance, identity document review and tracking, or directly with AccessNI.
Standard or enhanced check
You can't apply for these on your own. The application must be countersigned by an AccessNI registered body, and the role has to be one the law allows these checks for.
If an employer or organisation asked you for the check, they arrange it. Ask them for their PIN and instructions. If they aren't registered with AccessNI and don't have an umbrella body, they can use us.
If you're self-employed or employed directly by a private individual, you may be able to apply through us yourself. See self-employed and personal employees.
Already applied through us?
